On
Saturday February 3rd, 2007 it was the day the members of the Sunnyside
Woodside Lions Club had all waited and worked for. They proudly presented
checks totaling $4000.00 to St. Raphael’s and St Vincent de Paul’s food
pantries.
The club members gave up there weekends in December and stood in the cold in
front of Food Town, Associated Food, Butcher Block, St. Raphael’s and St.
Theresa’s Church collecting funds for our 2 local food pantries. The
members were beaming as the checks were presented to Norberto Saldana
the President of St. Vincent’s de Paul’s food Pantry for $2000.00 and to
Sister Marguerite and Father Tom for St. Raphael’s food pantry for
$2000.00. Four Lion members were missing at the presentation who had worked
with the club due to their prior commitments, Geraldine Go, Kris Czerniachowicz,
Marvin Jeffcoat, and Ruth Haupert-Lengeman. The food pantries were the
group’s favorite project for the season;
President Luke Adams speaking on behalf of the members “we wish to express
our sincere thanks to all our friends, neighbors and the people who came
forth to help us reach our goal; we could not have done it with out you. the
club wishes to extend special thanks to the Woodside Herald not only for all
the publicity in helping promote our cause and giving us at donation to get
us started. Special thanks must also be given John Murphy from P. J. Horgan’s Pub, Ruth Haupert-Lengeman, Francis Schmidt,
Kris Czerniachowicz, Patricia
Dorfman, Richard Drake and Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan for their very
special donations”.
The Lions Club is open to all who live and work in our communities and would
like working with us on neighborhood project. The club is neighborhood
people working for the community they live and work in. Their next meeting
will be Monday February 26tht at 7 PM at P.J. Horgan’s and they
