What to do with your Old Eye Glasses and Cell Phones

Donate them to the Sunnyside/Woodside Lions Club, they recycle eye glasses and the cell phones and get them into the hands of people in need who can’t afford them. There are millions of unused cell phones and eye glasses sitting in drawers and closets nationwide.  If you have an unused cell phone or eye glasses know that the Lions Club have the perfect way for you to dispose of them, The eye glasses are sent to poor people and give them a chance for second sight.

The cell phone support women who are victims of domestic abuse. These phones are connected to a free emergency service to protect these women from rape and sexual assault. You can drop your old Eye Glasses and Cell phones with the charger at the office of the Woodside Herald and La Guardia Community College all year

(L to R) Ona Whitman, Janice Ruiz and President Patricia Quinn. This photo shows Lion members Ona and President Pat donating cell phones and chargers to Janice Ruiz from the Queens County Bar Association, who sees that the woman at “Safe Haven” gets the help they need.

(L to R) The dynamite team of Katie Boland, Karen Mc Keon and Eneida Rivas from the public relations office of La Guardia Community College helped collect hundred of glasses and dozens of cell phones for our recent drive.

I must say these three gals are amazing and represent the College in the highest light. We also like to give a big thank you to the facility and staff which proved they not only have a big school but they also have big hearts!

Thank you to all, you helped give a second chance to see and made some battered woman feel secure and look forward to a better life!

The picture on the left is the Editor and Publisher Buster Sabba and his Director of Operations Erin Cabezas. They help us collect glasses and phones all year round.  At our recent Street Fair most of the contributions, glasses, food and  cell phones we did get were from the people in the community, we are grateful to the Woodside  Herald.   All day long people came with eye glasses and cans and of food because they read it in the paper. Hundreds of eye glasses and cell phones and lots of  cans of food thanks to the readers of the Woodside Herald.
